1st Team training session
After individually concentrating on their respective fitness levels (Ian and Tim both having successfully completed the Specsavers Ironman recently held in Port Elizabeth), the team held there first combined training session in the peaceful surroundings of Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve which lies close to the town of Heidelberg on Sunday 20 April.
Suikerbosrand is home to various types of mammals including Eland, Zebra and Black Wildebeest. The reserve has hiking trails offering 3 day hikes (66km) in addition to shorter day hikes (17km & 10km) as well as almost 60km of tarred road for vehicular traffic.
The training session consisted of the longer day hike (17km) with full AR backpacks and thereafter the full loop on Mountain bikes of the tarred road (again with full backpacks) . Altitude gains were 460 and 1 200 metres respectively.
Team Kreature.co.za is launched
The Kreature.co.za Adventure Racing was formally launched at a function held on 16 April 2008 at the Kreature.co.za shop in Northgate Shopping Centre. Gideon du Toit of the Sponsors welcomed those present and told everyone how proud he was of once again having an Adventure Racing team under the Kreature.co.za banner. The Kreature shop specializes in high quality adventure and outdoor gear.
Team Kreature.co.za has identified Swazi Xtreme and The Bull of Africa as their main goals for 2008. Swazi Xtreme being a 250km Adventure Race within the confines of the mountain kingdom of Swaziland, whilst The Bull is an expedition length AR of 570km which will be held in August in the Eastern Cape and has attracted some of the world’s best AR teams. Other races identified that Kreature will participate in include the 200km Singletrack Mania and The Rhodes Trail run during June and July respectively whilst smaller individual events being held throughout the year will also be targeted.
Members of the team have competed in a vast number of multi-day races including; The Cape Epic, Sani 2 C, Sabie Experience, Skyrun, The Wartrail, Swazi Xtreme and Surf 2 Rock whilst numerous AR sprint events have been successfully completed. The team consists of Tony Huglin (Captain), Elsie Bezuidenhout, Ivan Keeley, Ian Adams and Tim Deane.
