1st Team training session

After individually concentrating on their respective fitness levels (Ian and Tim both having successfully completed the Specsavers Ironman recently held in Port Elizabeth), the team held there first combined training session in the peaceful surroundings of Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve which lies close to the town of Heidelberg on Sunday 20 April.

Suikerbosrand is home to various types of mammals including Eland, Zebra and Black Wildebeest. The reserve has hiking trails offering 3 day hikes (66km) in addition to shorter day hikes (17km & 10km) as well as almost 60km of tarred road for vehicular traffic.

The training session consisted of the longer day hike (17km) with full AR backpacks and thereafter the full loop on Mountain bikes of the tarred road (again with full backpacks) . Altitude gains were 460 and 1 200 metres respectively.
